Might be that WD 40 is the army's 40th attempt to make a Water Displacement solution. Idea is, it has stronger capillary action, hence I suppose if you put a wet sponge in it, it will saturate the sponge and force the water out. Maybe spraying any electrical connections with lots of that might help. Idk.
As far as silt/water, an automatic trans might be done, or a main issue. Experience from years in a flood plain...suggests an auto's days might be numbered. Normally flushing an AW4 is not recommend. Just drain and refill often when it's ugly. Could be in your case an exception.

I let all the electrical plugs air dry cleaned them and reassembled. No mud or silt made it into the transmission or motor. I dropped the transmission pan and oil pan. Had a little water but didn't leave any mud deposits any where inside. I replaced the instrument cluster and everything was working fine. For about a week. Then out of the blue I get a no bus. Jeep won't start till I play with the gas pedal but then starts and runs fine.
If anyone is interested I fixed the no bus. Turns out I didn't clean the big plug under the dash by driver kick panel. Pulled the bolt sprayed it down with quick dry cleaner then blew it out with the air compressor reassembled and back in business
