So my heater was working alright the other day, I could turn it on and off no problem, then the next day it wasn't working at all until right when I got to work it kicked on, thats after about 7 miles.
Today I took the heater control apart and cleaned all the switch contacts and connectors and put it back in, still not working. I noticed the plug for the fan speed control looked kinda melted and one of the connector pins on the switch its self was burnt looking on the contact board.
While I'm driving I can hear a click, a relay I assume, and hissing over by the passenger kick panel, it hisses for about 30 secs then clicks off and does it every 5-10 mins. Is that part of the heater?
Does anyone have some suggestions on where I should go next? New fan control switch? I'd like my heater to work when Its supposed to
Thanks

yeah I saw all those crazy vacuum lines coming off the back, craziest heater controller I've ever seen. Everything about a jeep is weird to me. It doesn't look like the hoses do anything to me... What should I be looking for? Like is one of those hoses the main vacuum line and the others use it or what.

look in your front bumper for the canistor and trace the main line back to the fire wall, then fallow it inside
from the carbon canistor? thats in the corner by the firewall on the passenger side

i dont know if this helps but i was having a similar problem where i could only use the heater on high and one day it stopped working all around. I found out that the resistor for the fan switch is under the passenger side under the glove box..I believe there is a cover and then you can get ot the resistor. As for the melted swtich thats fine, i have seen plenty at the junkyard similar to what you described. If you want go to thejy and get the resisitor and new switch thats what i did, and everything works prefect..hope this helps
Yeah I was just reading that other thread about the heater fan switch, the thing is my heater when it does work I could change the fan speeds. Ill try replacing the switch and resistor though, I really don't want to go tracing a bunch of vacuum lines, I HATE vacuum lines...
replaced the fan speed switch and it seems to be working now. I'll find out through the next few days if that was the permanent fix for it. What the hell is this resistor everyones talking about? I looked under there and I don't see anything that looks like a resistor to me.
