Default Help! Front Left Brakes Locking

i changed the pads and rotor the other day and noticed the wheel wouldnt turn when tightening the lug nuts while on jacks....then when i turned the jeep back on i tried driving off it wouldnt move....tried bleeding fluid and still didnt move....so i replaced the caliper, and everything seem fined...hand tightened the lugs on and spun the wheel and it moved, then as i tightened with a wrench i heard i quick click and the wheel stopped spinning....finished dropping the jeep and put it in drive again and this time it moved but it made an obvious squealing sound in the front left corner...the brake pedal also had no friction(probably need to bleed system)...but what do i have to do to fix the squealing? i feel as if the width of the new pads and rotors are making it beyond limits and rotor needs to be machined down just a bit but if there is any other way to handle this please let me know

I'll hazard a guess you got the wrong rotor. Can you compare the new and the old? Can you see where it's rubbing?

You have the wrong rotor, there were two part numbers available for the 99 XJ.

similar issue but minor differences....

recently my front discs are locking up under moderate braking. new pads, rotors, calipers, rear shoes, spring kits and wheel cylinders within the past year 2 years. everything was working fine undtill one day i tapped the breaks and CLUNK wheels (Front) locked up? could the proportioning valve have given out? sorry to hijack the thread? doesn't do it all the time but when it does every one on the road knows i had a "panic moment" with the brakes.

90 XJ

Orange, I might take a look, or get a free brake inspection! Idk. Where the pads contact that "rail" on the steering knuckle there might be a problem.

There is allot of pressure there when you are braking, the pads might have worn enough to get to slots from two years ago?

free brake inspection... there's a "can't see the forest through the trees" idea! I'll run it in this weekend.

Also my reseach shows it could be failing brake hoses. they deteriorate from the inside and start acting like a one way check valve, but that just doesn't seem right to me. i would think if they are "failing" the hydrolic pressure of applied brakes would rupture the weak spot in the line not contract it. theories on that?

I had a similar issue with my front brakes. One side would get horribly hot and then a day or 2 later the other side would "stick". Turns out the caliper slides were badly corroided. bought new slides and rubber boots. (2 boxes of slides, one side in each box and boots come all 4 in one box). No problem since and that was 5 months ago. Its worth looking into.
