Unhappy Help finding a 1997 Cherokee SE fuel tank

My vehicle was randomly vandalized a week ago - someone came in the middle of the night, drilled a hole in the plastic gas tank, and drained the fuel (presumably to steal it?) Now the service center is having a hard time finding a new tank to replace it. I spoke with some plastics experts at my engineering day job and they said patching the tank will be very difficult if it's polyethylene. Apparently the 1997 fuel tank is discontinued. I found lots of parts online up to 1996, but none that are confirmed to fit my vehicle, and my mechanic has called around to all the junkyards to try to find a part that will match (I live in central Maryland). Does anyone know where I can find a stock replacement fuel tank that will fit? Metal is preferred so this doesn't happen again, but I'll take anything at this point. I've got a 1997 Cherokee SE 4WD 4.0L. Thanks for your help!

Default Crown automotive?

I've found a possible part, Crown Automotive 640685, but it's unclear to me whether this really fits the vehicle or not. Can anyone comment?

Unfortunately it's not as simple as that. Most junk yards put a hole in the tank to drain them. If you are lucky to find a JY that removes them for resale then you are in luck.

i had a similar issue with my 99, i got one out of the junkyard it had a small hole drilled in it. cant remember what i used besides a bolt and a nut but did use some kind of sealant. drove it like that for years with out any leaks.

I was going to suggest using a bolt and sealer. I've been driving my '76 Power Wagon like this for 16 years now. It has a plastic tank and it has never leaked. I used a rubber washer from the plumbing section on my bolt.
