Help!!
Alright the background... i am in school at chattanooga state for automotive technology...i bought an 86 cherokee 2door with an inline 6 out of a 85 cj7... the wiring in this thing is all out of whack which is partially ok since we are on electrical.... My problem is that it has a motorcraft distributer and the ignition module looks to be off of a ford as well... is this a common swap(ignition) ? and if so what do i need to do to get this thing wired up right so it will run?

Never heard of that swap. But if it will get you fire to the plugs then I don't see a problem. That is still a carb motor IIRC. So I have little experience with it. Last carbed Jeep I had was a CJ with a V8.
well today in class i asked the instructor about the wiring... he told me about a guy that had a similar problem and they used the wiring off of an old ford and the wires match perfectly so now all we have to do is hook everything up and hopefully i will get to hear it run tomorrow =]

i mean it says right on the dizzy motorcraft lol. And the wiring diagram we pulled off of all data for the ford fits the i6 perfectly the entire wiring is identical with the positions and colors of wires on the starter relay and the coil

You could also swap in an HEI GM distributor... it seems to be a popular swap for the 4.2s..
But it sounds like you are already getting the problem solved... Good luck.

hell i have good news and bad news... WE tried to starter up today... theres the bad i turned the key and it wouldnt turn over so we figured it had sat outside maybe some of the cylinders have water in them depending which valves were open... so i am standing with my back to the jeep asking the guy in the bay next to me a ? after we pulled the spark plugs out. brett decides to tunr the key, well it turns the motor over forcing a lot of water out of the spark plug holes of the 4 5 and 6 cylinders lol it shot water across 4 bays and soaked me lol the good news is that the motor is not locked up

Well was there water mixed in the oil. Some I would guess. Are you guys gonna gve up or are there still plans to start 'er up
yeah there was a little bit of oil in the water and a lot of rust i kinda see having to hone the cylinder possibly even boring it a little bit. and my friend is going to drain the oil tomorrow and replace it and next month we start engine performance so i am going to tear into the head then and see if anything is bad in it. but i really want to get this thing running and driving i cannot wait to take it out in the woods

That is good news...
