Always start with a review of tuneup parts when symptomatic. Their importance cannot be overstated.

Fresh Champion copper plugs gapped to .035, new quality plug wires, distributor cap and rotor.

If fuel system cleaner helps the symptoms, then you may have deposits in your injectors, etc. For problematic fuel systems, my favorite additive is BG44K. A little less aggressive but still a very good fuel system cleaner is Techron (by Chevron). The cheap stuff (2-3 bucks a bottle) that lines the shelves of many parts stores is not very effective; pass on those choices.

maybe a clogged fuel filter? I had a similar problem on a 92 ranger and thats what cured it.
