Good morning folks,
I spend more of my time lurking than posting, since up till now my only Jeep has been an '89 MJ that's my daily driver. Close enough that a lot of the tips have helped out though, thats for sure. That changed about a week ago.
I picked up a '94 two door Cherokee Sport (4.0, 4WD, manual) literally having it dragged out of a snow bank along side a friend of the familys barn by a flatbed tow truck for delivery to my (regrettably unheated) garage.
I was planning to make this a daily driver for my teenagers, but now I am kinda thinking they might just inherit my MJ instead.
From what I was told it was dad's friend's daughter's daily driver, and ran fine last October when the drivers door top hinge failed. She parked it along side the barn to "get around to fixing it".
Apparently she waited too long, since her dad sold it to me.
Anyhow, it had been used for parts for her Wrangler to a small extent.
The rear brakes were gone with the exception of the wheel cylinders and lines. Not a big deal, just have to grab pads, adjusters, and spring kits. I already have an extra set of drums laying about from the MJ.
She also thought the starter on the Wrangler needed replaced and pulled the one out of the Cherokee, but she didn't need it. It ended up sitting on the passenger side floorboard. No biggie, had Autozone spin it to make sure it was still good and popped it back in.
The only other thing she took was the battery, which would likely have been shot from sitting unstarted for most of a Wisconsin winter anyhow.
So here I get to the point, I fixed the hinge using the Mopar kit, so thats done. (posted a write up here: http://www.comancheclub.com/forums/v...hp?f=9&t=28641 )
Then I put a battery in and started working on getting it started up.
As of last night before I had to call it a day I got it turning over, but thats it. Having my son turn it over with the #1 plug out I found I have no spark. Thats it so far.
Todays plans are to pull the cap and check for corrosion on the cap and rotor, i'll probably bump it over with the cap off to make sure I have rotation as well. Assuming thats not the issue I would move on to the coil and check that.
I just figured I would finally pipe up and ask a question.
Knowing the situation, is there anything else you can think of I should check? Something common to Cherokee's that have been sitting for a while?

A very common cause of "no spark" for the 4.0 is a bad crankshaft position sensor. Located on the bellhousing, they can be tested and I would recommend doing so.
If that checks out, test your coil, but the crank sensor fails more commonly.
Good luck!

A little searching pulled up a CPS testing method where I ohm out pin b to c on the connector, an open being good and a short being bad.
Did I find the right method, or were you talking about something else?
