Default Hello Noob Question about 4WD Steering.

Hello All

This question may have been asked before but I need it directed to my situation. I have a 1995 JGC Orvis Edition with a automatic 4WD 213,000 miles. Meaning there is no switch to cut it on and off. I have been facing this problem for months now . But I had no desire to fix because I rode a motorcycle. Now that my bike is totaled I back in the Jeep and still facing this problem. Please help me.

I am getting a studder when Parellel parking, tight turning in driveways, Some tight turns in fast food drive throughs. Seems to only happen when the Jeep is warmed up. But lately it's happening when I get to work which is about 15miles from home. Now I am familiar with 4WD's doing this after a good highway run of 50miles but it's to consistant now. and only when tight turning right or left. I took it to the shop and they said that the front right axle is binding inwhich I can hear some rubbing from that side when testing this problem. But I don't know where to start looking. I have read a lot of post on here about steering gearbox, Transfer case, trackbars, and U-joints. I just am not sure.

I want to do the work myself because the shop cost would be more that the value of the Jeep. Please help me. I will be rotating the tires tonight to see if that helps. My front has more thread that the rear and I also notice that if I keep the tires inflated it is not a bad but I only tested that on my trips to and from work. I didn't go any further than that.

I would look at u-joints for wear and loose, also your ball joints.

If you're having issues with your front wheels when turning at slow speeds, it could be a problem with the viscous coupling in your t-case. Read this thread completely as it describes the symptoms: https://www.cherokeeforum.com/f5/quadratrac-question-22621/

I'm sorry. The studdering is in the back.

Try changing the fluid in the rear axle and use friction modifier.
Sounds like what you are hearing is the limited slip clutches chattering.
If the clutch packs are to worn the will have to be replaced, butI would try changing the fluid first.
