look for 93 to 96 models. they seems to be more favorable because of the features they have, i'd be comfortable with anything up to and including 99 with the 4.0. i've had an 88, 93 and a 96. i like my 96 the best. you can do an inexpensive 2" lift and run 30x9.50-15 tires. get an alignment done after the lift and you're good to go. the 2" lift is enough to get you over most mild obstacles and through some mud etc. if need be. plus they look whimpy in stock form. with a 2" lift, you will still be able to use your stock shocks, brake lines, etc. and not have any ill drivetrain vibrations or anything.
