Default The Heep runs!!!! sorta

Well, tonight i cranked and fired up my cherokee for the first time!!!! i purchased it back in sep 10 for $300.00, paid 300 for the engine, had to put it in, but there were issues!! I think the guy had started to part it out before i got it. Missing pieces, torq converter, almost all fasteners and hardware, for some reason all the connectors were clipped off of the wires for the starter and alt ( i had to peice it together with three other sub harnesses, not to mention, the engine came from a manual cherokee and mine was auto! So, my heep is sorta a junk yard hodgepodge, the ugly chick at the 8th grade dance nobody dances with!!! I have a concern, the trans linkage wasnt hooked up, nor was anything else, but, i had to make several trips to the yards to get fasteners, now that its together, when shifting from park into any other gears, it doesnt have that nice solid firm feel that most vehicles have, rather, it feels like a little bump would prob knock it out of gear, should i just replace it all, try and get a complete setup from the junk yard, not sure how to approach this one, not a trans guy, any links, diagrams, actual photos, or comments would be greatly appreciated!!! thanks guys

Since you failed to provide a huge amount of information it's impossible to answer yout question.
Year?
Engine?
Transmission?
Transfercase?

Your tranny issues could be something as simple as the linkage not being set up/adjusted properly or it may be full of sawdust.

Do you own a service manual for the vehicle?

on my 89 there "was" a cable that goes from the ignition to the shifter that kept tension on the linkage.
had to disconnect it and mine feels the same way now.

can't remember off hand what it's called....

Sorry guys for lack of info. Its a 94 sport 4x4 I6 4.0, however, im not sure on the trans model or transfer case, i beieve, on my gear selector its a 4spd/od, 1-2 are next to each other. then theres drive, and over drive. i know this prob doesnt help much either, ill try to get to the garage and track down some id #'s! As far as a service manual, i have a haynes manual, but it hasnt really been too much help!
