At least when I bust a bolt off, I know it was MY FAULT. It eliminates the blame game.

If I got myself in a jamb I had to figure out how to get out of it. Sometimes that involved buying better tools to do that. I took care of those tools and still use them today. It was still cheaper than going to someplace like Firestone. I got ripped off by my dad's favorite mechanic on my first car repair (a broken exhaust man bolt) and never took a car into the shop again. That was 40 years ago. Since WNJE broke a bolt trying to change the thermostat, I wonder what special tools SOUTHSIDECATAC would have recommended to change a thermostat? I can't think of a better "starter" job for a newbie than changing a thermostat. I know WNJE frayed the nerves of a lot of CF contributors (myself included) but she already apologized for that. I also recommended she do more research before she tries her next project. I'm sure that if she does her homework, it will be a lot more pleasant for all involved. To TRACYK: I don't think southsidecatac wants ANY credit for the pep talk.
Good job learning how to use the keyboard and how to quote! I guess my pep talk worked for you!

And photo..... The special tool for not snapping the thermostat housing bolt in this particular case is called common sense and reason. Something that many will never have in their tool box.

I wonder if TRACYK can recommend a good YouTube video on using a cotter pin? Or perhaps the sequel: how to screw in a light bulb.

14 pages and all that's been done is a radiator cap replaced and a bolt broken off.

I'm so glad none of this happened to me back when I started out this year.

In future, I shall be more careful about everything.

This is getting ridiculous. You didn't join the thread until page 12 and I joined on page 13. How about I stop flaming you and you stop flaming me. We will agree to disagree. I have made my point and you have made yours.Shake?

A troll's work is never done. But I think this one has been played. See you under a different bridge soon.

The only place I enjoy trolling is off the coast of North Carolina. Until we meet again...

You can be as careful as you want, but sometimes, a bolt just snaps. If you work on vehicles, it WILL happen sooner or later. More than once.

Was about to ask for an update, but there it is.
Progress has been made, I see....

Southsidecatac is one of those people who don't understand much about forums and human nature but will no doubt never tire of telling everyone how they should have done things after the fact. I see that there is no info whatsoever in his profile.

Well what do you know everything is done! Paid $10 to have a nearby mechanic PB blast the snapped bolt and pry the Tstat housing open!

So here's the breakdown:
Replaced the radiator cap
Replaced fan clutch ( only took 30 minutes) Replaced the water pump
Replaced the Tstat
Performed a coolant flush

No more overheating! Thanks guys (thank you, thank you, thank you) for all of the handholding and thanks photo4x5 for the encouragement. Thanks Firestorm for going all the way with me. That's what's up!!! Very helpful. Next time, I will do more research first!

Now I'm rolling in my XJ. I love her! Don't I look happy?!

Bloody amazing and Congratulations!!!

I suspect that you are not the only one who has learned some things from your journey.

And you realize that you get to smile for a few days until the next little thing pops up and you are back on the trail to attaining expert status....

Oh but I do understand these forums and the types of posters within. Some ppl are just never wrong. Some ppl will beat you over the head with their brand fetish. Others can't let a topic go until they have beaten anyone who disagrees with them to a cyber death. I'm just here to temper the insanity. If that doesn't meet with your approval that's ok because I wasn't looking for it. Wow pelican..... Got your attention enough to check out my profile. That's a high honor for us trolls.
