Heating on hill climb and wont cool down
my 91 4.0 auto was loaded down with 2 adults, 2 kids, 3 small dogs and all camping gear. we made our 6 hour trip over 3 mountain passes. I was able to use the a/c for the first part of the trip as the outside temp. was only in the 80's. As the out side temp rose up past 90 degrees i had to turn the a/c off because the jeep's temp rose to the last white mark. At times i had to turn the heater on. after we crested the hills it took almost half of the down hill for the jeep to cool down. The gauge needle showed the jeep was getting just to the bottom of the red but i didn't hear any bubbling into the overflow tank. I checked during and after and i was completely full on coolant. I plan on pulling a 16' boat later and dont want to worry about the temp.
I plan on doing a coolant flush tomorrow and pulling the water pump off to see if the previous owner put in a cheap plastic impeller pump. I have a new clutch fan on here as well.
what else should i check when im in there??

One thing I remember about Wa is the bugs in the summer pelting the front of my Jeep, I would also check the AC condenser fins and make sure they are not totally clogged and blocking air from getting to my Radiator. Make sure that when the AC kicks on that the electric fan comes on at the same time.

Auxiliary fan
My 92 has an additional fan with a switch on the dash. Mine wants to overheat in traffic with the ac running. I flip this switch and she cools right down. Couldnt have been that expensive.

I have changed out both of my radiators for 3 core, I use both Jeeps to pull a trailer with my camp gear and canoe, It's hot down here and we run the AC all the time, they both stick to 210*.
