Heater problems

Whoa....okay, so I pulled out my Haynes manual and saw there is a difference in the exhaust manifolds between the 91-99 models and the 2000+ models. I definitely have the 91-99 manifold.

It could be low coolant, blocked heater core, bad thermostat, etc. Read my thread, I gave very easy ways to test these things that require no tools.

I think that the mechanic you bought this XJ from bought a '98 for parts and changed out the front clip, engine, engine harness, PCM, and the HVAC unit from the '98.
Looks like he did a good job BTW.
Make sure you make note of all the changes for future reference, like buyng parts and asking qusetions on XJ forums.
