Default Heater only works sometimes, again. Changed diode and heater controls.

So my heater was working pretty consistently whenever I tried it after I changed the heater fan speed switch. But now it stopped working about a week ago again. It wont work on any speeds. Sometimes when its off for a bit and turn it on I can hear it try to work and I hear vacuum stuff going on but it then it just dies out.

I changed the whole heater control with fan speed switch first and the diode down by the passenger feet today trying to see if that would fix it again. Is the relay down in that same area that has 2 3-pin plugs on it and says HR on top the heater relay? Could that be it? Does the vacuum actually control the fan turning on and off?

Thanks for any help, this is pretty annoying as its been pouring **** rain the last few days at night in the cold and I have to drive with the windows down

hmm that would be a good test, are there direct wires to the blower motor from the heater controls? Or from that diode thing?

it would help if it was big enough to read. thanks though. you cant just tell me what wires go directly to the motor so I can test it?

Also is that relay down there by the diode that has HR on it the heater relay? I can only assume so, could that be the problem?

Cool

Go right to the motor and if you can unplug it and just jump it out with two wires. It really don't matter at this point which is power and ground because you just want so see if it works

P.S. orange is power and black is ground

both my friends and my jeeps are doing thing this. Did the fan make any funny nosies before? More then likey the fan motor went out. You can jump the wire plug coming out from the fan to the bat. If it works just fine and no funny noises then it can be___1. a fuse blown 2.fan switch is bad. 3. the wire plug on the back of the switch is burnt up. 4. the resistor is bad. 5. the relay is bad. One way is pull the switch out and use a test like with the key on. One wire will be hot. If that does then get a piece of wire and jump the hot to the other ones the fan should work on low, med...http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Where_is_t..._Jeep_Cherokee this is were the relay is

I replaced the switch and resistor. I didn't notice any noises before with the fan. I didnt want to tear apart the car to get to the motor if I didn't have to just to test it was my thinking. I'll test the switch though and I dont see the relay in there but would a bad relay make it not work at all or just only on one speed like the wiki said.

Thanks for the replies, finally

Today while I was putting my stereo in I checked for power at the heater fan speed switch, there was none. There is supposed to be power there right? This means my blower motor is ok correct?
