Default Heater issue

I have a weird issue on a '91 Laredo.

AC blows hard and cold out of all vents but when I switch to heat everything stops blowing.

If I put it to defrost it blows hot out of the window vent so I know it can make heat at least.

Why would it refuse to blow in the heater setting.

I fully admit I may be a moron, I am more inclined engine wise than with this kind of stuff.

Thanks in advance.
