1992 Jeep Cherokee Laredo 4.0
I replaced the hose running from the water pump to the heater core 3 times in the last 5 months. It keeps getting pinhole leaks. I normally have a shield on the hose but forgot to put it on this last time. Any ideas as to where to look or start? No other hoses are affected. My engine is not overheating (because I catch the leak before it gets too bad).

Yes you are seeing orange. The previous owner (also the original) ****ed the whole cooling system by using tap water and not distilled water and coolant mix. I have replaced the water pump 1y ago or so. I have had my system flushed 2 times professionally and 2 times myself in 4 years time. The thermostat and housing and gasket are as old as the water pump. I should also mention that the orange you are seeing is from an old hose that busted. I just flushed my system 1.5 months ago. It's leaking green.Originally Posted by djb383
Same brand of hose from the same supplier? (am I seeing orange?)
First time, I bought the hose from Advance. Then Autozone. Then Lowesp

Might try finding Gates or Goodyear heater hose. 3 hoses leaking in 5 months is really odd. The Prestone jug does not say distilled water MUST be used, just clean drinkable water.
Ha ha, bad joke on my part, I was referring to the orange oil filter.

Ah man, I am out of touch. It's been a while since I was an oil/tire tech. What's the joke behind the filter?Originally Posted by djb383

Thanks for the advice. I will change it tomorrow and see what happens.

Looking at the pic it looks like Thermoid brand hose.
Their Standard heater hose meets NO specs and is only rated to 212 degree.
Throw it away and buy a better quality hose.

Fram filters have very poor anti-drainback valves, among many other poor qualitied.Originally Posted by JimmyMcDuff

Due to the orientation of the filter when mounted, it's critical to have excellent ADB valves in our filters to avoid dry starts.
I suggest Mopar, Wix or Napa Gold.
