Don't have a fix for you, but I do know this is common from walking around in the junkyards, nearly all of them have the fan speed switches taken out.

So yours WAS bad, that caused the connector to get hot, and soften the plastic, now it doesnt make perfect contact, a loose connection will also get hot, never ending cycle. I had to replace an ignition switch, that was melted, due to the blower motor, all the amps go throught it too! Try putting new spade connectors on each wire, and hook them up individually.

update

the problem was the blower motor being old and drawing too much voltage. i replaced it with a used one from a junkyard and it STILL did the same thing.
I then bought a brand new one (the price difference was $15) and it works fine now. LESSON LEARNED, do NOT use a used blower motor, buy a new one!
to replace the connectors you can find a used set from a junkyard and splice them in just make sure you splice the corresponding colour to your harness, unless your colour blind it's easy.

ONE MORE THING, i also re-charged the AC system because it was kicking in too much heating the vehicle, this may cause extra voltage to be drawn and also contribute to the connectors getting too hot. not sure how much this affected the connectors getting hot but it doesn't hurt.

GOOD LUCK
