Would this work on my 1991? I noticed my heater valve doesn't work {no vacuum}. All I have is the basic heater system without AC.

Cap the vacuum line, run 97+ heater hoses.

Okay I really want to bypass the HCV on both my 90 and 94. Since both have a small leak in them. But I have a few questions that I hope someone can answer. First if its not need what is its purpose? Second, I know with the HCV doesn't run as much coolant through the heater core, so does the HCV prolong the life of the heater core? I would like to cut some corners on repairs but don't want a bigger headache in the end.

I think of it as a type of redundancy... The blend door should keep any warm air from coming in when you have it on full cold/AC, but they put the valve there to guarantee it.
Some people say the lack of coolant flow when the valve is closed will cause stuff to build up quicker.

As mentioned, 97+ doesnt have a heater valve.
For the 94, just go buy some 97 heater hoses, top and bottom, and put them in. Cap off the vacuum line.
For the 90, if it has been switched to the open style cooling you can do the same. Otherwise Youll have to do a little more work and Ill let someone else explain. Ive never screwed with the hcv on a stock renix closed system.

i took my tubing cutter and cut right above the HCV and put a peace of hose and that was it...ocourse i have plans of fixing it in tax season with hoses from a 97 but for now no problems driving it all over.

It was. All it did was shut off the flow with AC or vent on IIRC. I'm in absolute agreement that lack of coolant flow through the heater core promotes clogging.

Thanks every one. I do agree more flow would keep it cleaner. Makes sense. Thanks again. Never hurts to learn more, and understand our XJ's.

hoses from a 97 will not work on renix model you still have to run thru the pressure tank

I'm probably a bit late 😂 But I broke mine off where the plastic goes in the heater core so I pulled the plastic price out of the heater core hose pulled the part and I cut it off at the heater controls valve so all that was there was the three section hose peice and I hooked all the hoses back up with the original clamps and it holds water and works fine no money spent
