Default Heater Box Drain

I keep having issues with my glove box and passenger floor filling with water when it rains. I covered the heater box one day during a storm with a plastic bag and it never got wet. I would imagine the drain is rather clogged or the tube is rotted off. Can anyone tell me how to access this to check this area? I have already pulled the grate off where the wipers are and can't get to anything from that? Thanks for any help

If water is getting into the glove box it could be windshield or cowl drains

I covered the vent to the heater box with a plastic bag and it stopped the leak. I thought it was the windshield originally so i siliconed the whole thing and it still leaked after that. That how i know its not the windshield.....

Anyone else got an idea? How do you access the heater box drain?

There's a rubber drain tube located underneath the evaporator emissions canister (on the firewall). You can see if from on top with a flashlight and mirror.

The purpose is to drain water that has melted off your AC evaporator core. That's the water you see under the Jeep in the summer with the AC on. The hole will plug up with debris and cause the water to leak from the HVAC box to the interior...rare but it happends.

A plugged up drain tube would not allow water to get into your glovebox.

I chased a similar leak for a while. The way I stopped it was while I had the dash out I calked the inside seam of the windshield.

With the interior dry have a helper flood the windshield with a garden hose and look for water coming in under the dash. As mentioned it's probably time to have the windshield pulled/cleaned and resealed.

I have the same problem today I sprayed dyed water where the hood hinge goes through the firewall and the water leaked out of my heater box. in two places. you will have to remove the glove box to see where the water come from. I have no idea how to fix it

mine is leaking (2000 XJ). Tracked it to when the water goes down the cowl into the engine compartment on the passenger side down the fire wall. Seems to be following in on a cable of the hvac box seal is bad.

Good thing its not the windshield money wise but the window would have been an easier fix. gonna wrap the cowl/hood seam with cling wrap and water test one more time.

Water hose in the cowl area did not leak, but when the hose was placed in the passenger corner firewall with hood up lots came in. Did not know it was leaking due to the floor liners I have. Will pull front seats, carpet, glove box and seal up what I have to, then check for any rust damage and lay down a coat of por15

My main leak is a crack shown laytexed in the photo. Also my blower gasket was leaking a little. Water IN the hinge hole can leak also. I used tape and plastic to isolate everything. I cut a hole to access the vertical duct. It was not the sealant for the duct, it was the above.

IN the glove-box...I'd tape plastic to the bottom of the windshield trim, and hose the lower and see if it still leaks.
