Was driving down the road yesterday and my heater just shut off. I tried turning it on and nothing I can go from low to high and nothing. I turn it from feet to defrost and nothing. Any idea what I should check out? It's cold in SD right now...

Vacuum is only for changing where the air comes from (floor, vent, defrost). Probably not the cause.

Try checking the fuse for the blower motor.

Pretty much this. If it's not the fuse then it's likely the blower motor. Usually you can clean up the brushes on the blower motor and it'll work again (for a while)

It could be that connector that is known to easily fry.

But checking that fuse is SUPER easy.

Not likely, usually when these go you're just stuck with the blower on high constantly.

I have a 2000 xj and the fuse is good, where is the resistor? How big of a job is the blower motor or resistor?

The part where he says he only has low and high makes me think its the resistor, same symptoms I had. Which was resolved by replacing the resistor. Just throwing out ideas...

He said he gets nothing from low to high.

At least that's how I read that.

Well if the motor is out, it won't matter if you switch from defrost to floor with no air moving. So i would venture to guess that the motor is out, the resistor its blown, or the fuse is crapped out. Or the blower switch itself.
