Heated mirrors
I want to put heated mirrors on my 97 xj. Anyone have any ideas. I know that if they came factory they run off the defrost switch. Didn't know if they will swap I or if I just need to retrofit the mirrors heating elements to run off a relay when the defrost is on. Any help would be welcome. Thanks

I did this swap myself a couple months ago on my 97. As long as you have power mirrors now, it's completely plug and play, popped them on and they worked right away.

It was available as an option on 97+ XJ's. If your junkyard hunting fir some, look on the mirror glass. If they're heated, they'll have the same symbol (square with 3 wavy lines) that the rear defroster switch has. As I said before, if you have all the power stuff, then it's completely plug and play, the wires will already be in your mirror connector, they just have nothing to plug into on the non heated ones. The heated ones will have the extra wire in the plug on the mirror. No extra switches or anything are needed as they come on when you turn the rear defroster on. They've been a nice addition to the XJ now that it's cold since we have a 2 car garage and 3 vehicles.

It seems they did this with a number of options for the models which is nice. I noticed that they did something similar with the tweeter pod connectors when I was fixing the terrible wiring work that Chrysler had in their cars around this time as I fixed my front speakers in my 2door 2000 and there they ran up to the top of the door. I think the only one that actually needed extra wiring would be the overhead console, which may have had the plug running halfway up on the passenger side but don't quote me on that. Now that I've been looking around for a while to see what I want to do with my jeep, I think this would be a nice addition. Maybe power seats when I decide to get mine re upholstered.

Posting here instead of starting new. Could someone tell me whether the door panel needs to be removed to plug the mirrors in? Or just the little triangle trim piece?

yes, there's a screw on the bottom of the triangle that's covered by the door panel. You must remove the panel to get to it.
