why are you trying to stop the heat? theres really no way the exhaust port temp is the same as the manifold. the injector dumps right into the intake port of the head which is directly next to the exhaust port. if there was an effective way of doing so it would have been done from the factory.

but it wasnt and it commonly heats the gas in cylinder 3 causing miss fire codes because of the heat soak.

You should if you have the money get a new header that is ceramic coated inside and out =] always love upgrades!

but a more practical solution is to take it off (yes the long disassembly process, altho not to bad) and wrap the entire header in heat wrap(thick insulated tin foil basically) wrap it good and tight around the whole header. This is also a good time to check for cracks and have it welded up =]

the renix engines came with an aluminum heat shield bolted on the intake manifold, you might try to adapt one to your HO.

Wasn't there a recall/TSB that dealt with this issue? Had something to do with putting two sleeves around the number three?
Sorry, that is for later model '99 and up.

If it helps, I just had the recall done on my 00XJ for the debris shield. It is basically just a tin foily looking thing that fills the holes in the top of the intake manifold and keeps junk from falling through onto the exhaust. It is one piece made of plastic sandwiched between to sheets of foil. I bet it deflects some of the heat as it plugs most of the openings. If it keeps crap out, it should marginally keep heat from going the other direction. If you want pics I can go snap some.

I have been wondering the same thing. I wanted to do some heat shielding this weekend. There is some heat shield already in my engine but not around the injectors. I have a heat soak issue after restart from longer drives.

Had to run out of town for the next couple of days, but will post some on Tuesday when I get back. Was going to snap some before I left, but ran out of time.

Wow, those suck. When I tried to post, the page said I was limited to 19.5KB per pic. Any ideas how to get a better resolution?

open the .bmp (bitmap) with Paint and save as .jpeg, then upload again.
