Heat help
My heat is not getting hot i mean it gets warm but still takes forever to get warm and is deffinitely not hot as it should be. My question is what parts can i look into or test or clean that will help
Is the engine warmed up?
I have back flushed heater cores with a garden hose and after a bunch 0 mud comes out they work much better!!
Looks like a 97-01 type with no heater control valve. Earlier XJ's have HCV's and they can cause low heat also.
Good Luck!!

Its a 98 and its warmed up even after driving on the highway for a half hour its still just warm not heat by any means so flushing the heater core is where i should start? Its a 98 idk wat the heater control valve is but do i check that if i have one?
I have poored a soda into the core and let it sit to soften up the mud. Then flush it through both holes with a garden hose.
Also there is a heater temp door motor under the passenger side dash that could be broken. Look under the dash below the glovebox near the trans hump. It's a black box screwed to the heater box. watch/feel the white circle while you move the temp **** from hot to cold to hot. It should move about 90 degrees. see attachment (the pic is upside down)

Have u had the XJ very long? Does it have a t-stat in it? If so, the PO could have stuck a 160F. U just never know when it comes to POs.

I'm having almost the same problem(but mine he air stays cool) I'm going to back flush it this weekend, if that doesn't work I'll look for the thing you mentioned that is supposed to rotate. After that, how can we find out what kind of t stat is in it? And why does that effect it?

I just replaced the tstat with a 195degree one a new water pump also. Didnt flush heater core but did flush whole cooling system. Idk is it needed to flush the heater core to be directly flushing only the heater core
