Hey guys,
Sorry if this has been asked already I searched for it but couldnt really find a answer. I have a 92 cherokee sport the headliner was out when I bought it. So I took the headliner padding out and sprayed it with 3m 77 spray adhesive, got me some desert camo and made a nice headliner. Then reinstalled it came out the next morning and the fabric had came loose and was hanging from the padding what did I do Wrong.???????? Any info is appreciated. Thanks, mrbreeze824

If you didn't use a full can, that's why. Just double checking, but you did scrape down the head board with a wirebrush or something similar, right?
I've heard that 1-2 cans does the trick. But you definitely need at least one.

Here's a good video on you tube of an XJ headliner. Done by some HS tech class that got instruction from a professional. Good video.
I haven't done mine yet, but it's on the agenda and this video has good information.

Don't just "rough it up", you need to remove it from the board to give your glue a surface to adhere. Like the guys have said and video shows, remove all the old foam back down to the board

First thing....Super 77 does not work very well for that application. Find some 3M Foam Fast 74 (orange).....it works much better for inverted and high temp applications. Spray both surfaces and let set up 5-10 minutes then stick together. I like to work in 1-2 foot sections. That should work much better.
One of the cans of Super77 I have specifically said not for use on headliners, the other one didn't say anything, but I still didn't use it. I used a spray glue that Jo-Ann Fabrics had specifically for headliners...

I have an XJ right now with the headliner material separating from the board/foam.
I cut most of it away and the old foam was deteriorating something fierce. If you run you have over it you get covered in DUST that was once the old foam.
In order for anything to stick you need to remove the old foam as much as you can, or find some way to stabilize it. ( but I doubt attempts to stabilize will work.
One " old school trick " I heard for a sagging headliner was to remove the headliner and lay it on the floor, material side up. One guy told me to spray it with HAIR SPRAY and let it sit until it dried. Never tried this but the theory sounded interesting.
For mine, I plan on pulling it down, removing all that I can and getting a " headliner kit " that includes material and adhesive.
