Default Headlights not turning on

This morning I went to pull my headlight switch to turn on my headlights and they headlights didnt turn on but the running lights did. I had to drive to work in the dark. The high beams work if you pulled back the lever and hold it but not if you push it forward to stay on all the time. So could it be a bad headlight switch?

I would pull it apart and clean the contacts inside, they can get gummed up really bad. I'm sure more people will throw some different ideas at ya

I bet you'll find the switch and/or connector overheated. It's a common problem.

So after I posted this they randomly started working fine until now. Now the brights only work and not normal headlights. What could be the issue?

More than likely a bad/weak headlight switch. Rather than cleaning it, probably better to replace it being they are relatively cheap. The connector can melt and cause a bad connection on one or two terminals and be an issue, but there are replacement connectors for that problem as well.

I suppose knowing what generation of headlight switch / high beam switch you have would be helpful in internet diagnosis.

*HINT* put up what year your rig is.
