Headlight wiring
I have a question about headlight wiring. I did some troubleshooting and volt meter testing, I found out the the reason the high beams weren't working was because the high beam wire wasn't even connected to the socket. There was another wire connected and the high beam wire was just hanging going nowhere. I installed new hi temp sockets and spliced them into the correct corresponding wires in the harness.
My question is why are there 4 wires on the driver's harness going to the socket? The passenger side only has 3. Which seems right (low beam, high beam, ground.) So that 4th wire on the driver side I just taped up and its not hooked up to anything. Everything else seems to work. Any ideas why here is a 4th wire on that side? Where is it coming from?

Well, according to service manual for the 99, that extra wire goes from the high beam to the fog light relay in the PDC. If you do not have factory fog lamps, then not a prob. If so maybe someone was attempting to run fog lamps with high beams.

yes it has factory fog lights. But maybe that explains why they were not even hooked up when i got it? I did find the socket hanging for the passenger side fog light and plugged it into the light and it worked!
However I can't find the wire socket to plug in the driver's side fog light anywhere???? Any ideas?

The wiring should be tucked in the bumper. If you absolutely cant find it, I would make up fused relay circuit, with heavier gauage wire (14 or 12), direct from the PDC bus. PDC bus >> fuse>> relay pin 30 >> relay pin 87>> lamps. Then relay pin 86 to ground, and relay pin 85 to the hot wire coming from the existing fog wire.
Confused yet,, if so pm me and I will draw you up a schematic.
