Im looking to upgrade the headlights on the 87 Renix. Im ok with adding relays or whatever other wiring may be needed for the install but would really like to hear some recommendations as there are a ton of LED and Halogens to choose from. Any pros or Cons are also greatly appreciated
thank you in advance

I have an 88, I put an upgraded light harness and will say that made a great improvement on its own. I looked at going LED but personally I don't like the look, and going H4 didn't make much sense as I would still have to remove the housing to change bulbs (no rear access). I ended up just getting the brightest 6054 sealed beams I could and my lighting has improved drastically.

Headlight harness is always a good start. I recommend good h4 conversion housings over bargain LED headlights you'll find on amazon. I have E-Code h4 conversions and they're night and day over the sealed beam I replaced them with.

any particular brand you recommend for the harness? Are the e-code h4 conversion the round lights?
*I myself dont care much for the look of the LED's but I do like the brightness, however from what ive read they can be difficult in the colder temps with snow building up due to no heat coming off them

Ecode is "european spec" and is just a slightly different beam pattern, they're still the "square" headlights like stock.
I know putco was the popular h4 harness for a while, not sure if there is a new popular.

If you have Orielly rewards you can use them towards the Rampage lights and they are probably in stock for instant gratification. I like the old school look of the Hella conversions so got them but my state also doesn't require DOT approved lights. If yours does the Rampage's have it.

The Youtube videos of LEDS in snow turned me off to them:

curious what harness and beams did you use? Still trying to decide on a good setup. I was planning to upgrade to an H4 harness but curious to know what you ended up using

Anyone have experience with these?
Also, regarding the icing issue, if they're glass and you put rainx on them or some other hydrophobic solution on the lenses, there isn't much of an issue and really, even iced up they're still going to be hugely brighter than stockers

They're coming up {on Amazon} for me as a frequently returned item because of being too dim...And don't assume that just because it's an LED it will be brighter than other options...

I did the Hella E codes and some chinese harness off Amazon and they work great in dry weather. No snow here yet to see.
For the harness I still need to go back and modifying it so high beams work normally so I have to turn my headlights all the way off to turn my brights off. I think that's only an issue if you have fog lights.

I just switched my h4 ecodes for a set of the LED projector headlights. Wish I had done it sooner. The led projectors are amazing, so much brighter with a nice cutoff.

I have Truck Lights - expensive LED lights that are well designed to disperse light where it's needed that have lasted 5 years and still counting

I had truck-lites on my last XJ. The high beams are insane. Low beams are fantastic too. I don’t live in an area that snows so I don’t care if they don’t melt snow. Best part is that they don’t blind other drivers. The cutoff line is crisp. They will be going on my current XJ once I actually start working on it.

I just picked up a set of these https://loyo-led.com/products/loyo-5...41101483638828 on sale, they seem extremely bright and well made, black friday sale I think I paid like $70 shipped.
The box is totally generic other than with a round "EMC" logo and (DOT SAE (E9)) branding. I'll snap some pictures once I get them installed (Just bench tested) but from what I can see they should work well as they have a really nice crisp beam.
