Headlight issue, completely stumped
I have a 93 xj country I6. From the beginning, the head lights started to flicker or have a delay coming on after a few minutes. Now they won't come on at all. The tail lights, corner markers, interior dome and cluster all come on with no issue. I pull the high beam/turn signal/cruise/wiper lever for high beams and they won't stay on unless I hold the lever back. I checked the head light fuse, bulbs and harness. All are in good shape. I read it could be the high beam lever. Any help would be great! And is much needed.
Same year, same model, same problem! LOL
There is a plug in front of, or below the air box under the hood. Check it for cracking, corrosion, etc. Mine was bad enough to where I cut the plug out and replaced it with weatherpack plugs (weatherproof). Clean it up and pack it with dielectric grease, if it's damaged, replace it with something weatherproof. That fixed my unwanted headlight delay.
Another place to check and clean up is the main bulkhead connector. Whatever the tar-looking goo was that they used at the factory to pack that plug was starting to get dried and crusty. 2 cans of electric cleaner and an old toothbrush later, I got almost all of it out. I re-packed it with dielectric grease and put it back together. Amazingly, all of my gauges started working better.

My 95 just had the same issue at just the wrong time. I turned the headlights on and got only running lights, markers, tail and plate. Flash to pass I had headlights. I used that to drive 55 miles, sorry to anyone who got beamed. Mine turned out to be the switch. There's two pins one for running etc and one for the headlights which likes to get warm and separate from the housing.

Lots of times, it's a bad switch. It is a lousy design. One of the best upgrades that I have done was to replace the lighting harness and use a couple of relays to power my lights. It takes the strain off of the inadequate switch and wiring.
