headlight housing
Hey so what headlight housings will fit a 2000 Cherokee? They seem to be pretty universal from year to year except for the price ($18 vs $40). Any idea if the older models will fit?

Didnt think of this until IJM posted, but youre after the headlight itself, arent you? If thats the case you got options, with a headlight harness upgrade being one of them, and recommended. Unless youve already taken care of that?
I was thinking of the plastic trim piece when i posted earlier as ive heard some call that a housing already, as it kind of houses the headlights. Sort of. Dont mind me, im just tired.

By housing I meant the bucket. I guess I should have been more specific! its a 2000 cherokee classic my gf just picked up and the buckets were ****ed. sprayed the screws with pb blaster and even that wouldnt get them out. So I am just going to replace them for her. Also, I work full time and go to school full time so having time to make it to the junk yard isnt going to happen.

I hear that! It's hard to get to a place that's only open the same hours you work.
Could always cruise Craigslist and any FB buy sell trade or Jeep groups around you an keep an eye open for part-outs. Individuals are usually flexible with the hours you can get parts.

yeah whenever I replace any screws or bolts I always put some grease on there. However, since we just picked it up they were already rusted in place. Looking online though the pre 97 buckets and yj buckets are at least half the price of the more modern xjs. Wasnt sure if it was just a money grab or if there were actual differeces in the design. They use the exact same product picture for all of them so I was just looking to see if anyone had prior experience using older model buckets on the newer model xjs.

So after doing some calling around I found out some interesting info.. According to the guys over at Morris 4x4 this whole headlight bucket thing is a desperate money grab! Pre 97 XJs use the same bucket as post 97. Here is the catch though... A pre 97 passenger bucket fits the post 97 driver side and vice versa... Just thought I would pass this information along!!

What you do is carefully insert the screwdriver into the head of the screw, then smash the other end of the screwdriver as hard as you can with a hammer. The impact driver converts the impact force to many times the rotational force you can exert yourself while shoving the screwdriver into the head so that it doesn't strip out. That's a Craftsman shown, but there are numerous brands. Even Harbor Freight has one, but I can't speak to its quality.
