Default Which head will fit my 2000 XJ?

Yes Ive used the search button but have found conflicting info.

I MIGHT have a cracked 0331 head on my XJ right now but Im not sure at the moment. IF it is cracked then Im gonna just try and swap out the heads. Ive seen a few say I could use other heads from different years but then I read that some heads fit differently and wouldnt work.

So which casting #'s could I use besides 0331

0630
7160
.....
.....
etc

A head from a 91 and up will work, but you have to make or buy a bracket for the coil packs to sit on. The ports in the 91-96 head are bigger and may give you a few more horspower.

So I would either have to buy a bracket for them to sit on or just make my own is it?

Several Options:

1. Get 91-96 head make brackets for coils.

2. Get aftermarket,i.e www.clearwatercylinderhead.com www. alabamacylinderhead.com But these have long lead times from what I've heard

3. Reman as said

4. Find '03+ head with "TUPY" casting, this is the 0331 V2.0 so to speak, it has the cyl 3-4 weak spot strengthened.

If you do go the 91-95 route or even the 96-99 route your not only having to fab up brackets for you coil but you will need the header off those years. The exhaust ports on both of those are larger than your 0331. There was a guy on naxja making adapter for them awhile back i believe but going with an aftermarket header will also cure that issue.
