I recently did the re-wire of the headlights on my El Camino, and result was brighter head lights, of course. I just bought the relays & sockets to do it on the wife's '94 Cherokee. The Jeep needs this much more than the El Camino did. At night the headlamps on the Jeep are next to dangerous as far as lighting up the highway. I used a lead direct from the battery for the output side of the relays to the lamps, and the light switch wiring activates the relays. Relays came form the local Advance auto store, and are the 40 amp variety. Sure don't need 40 amp capacity, but maybe the contacts will last longer with a lighter load.
I suspect that the typical small gauge wiring, like most car brands use , is most of the reason that the lights are lousy..
I intend to replace the lamps also, with some better types, like the Sylvania Performance type. Used those on other cars, and they seem to be better.
So, has anyone here done this ?
Early on I looked at the kits on Amazon etc, but when I looked, they didn't specify any for our Jeep, so it was just doing it on my own. I use #12 gauge wire to the lamps from the relays. Don't think I'll have much voltage drop there.!! I'll see if it really helps on the Jeep...

It's a much-discussed and highly recommended mod. Most folks use a kit from Putco, but there's nothing wrong with rolling your own. I plan to do the same one of these days.
Based on what others here have said, I think you'll be pleased with the results.
