My jeep overheated and blew the head gasket. The head is at the machine shop and so far it doesn't look like it's crack which I'm happy about have the the crappy casting in my 00. My question is can I reuse the head bolts or are they one time use? And what about the intake and exhaust manifold bolts?

 

Your gonna replace the head right? It's already out.

 

Replace hardware. And put a new head on. Don't spend money having machine shop screw with it.

 

Head work should have been completed today. The shop was recommended by a local jeep shop that uses them. I figure the head bolts need to be replaced but the manifold bolts too?

 

And? Why on earth would you put that head back in there if it's already out and known to have big issues? Yes get new bolts all around. Don't skimp man. I'm sure everyone would tell you to replace that head with a differrent one now that it's out.

 

Getting a new head is expensive even a used head isn't cheap here in New York. The stock head is already beyond the point of no return. Might have been finished up today.

 

Ok. It's only a matter of time now though, that the 0331 goes. You can't fix it. No offense man, but you should have fixed it the proper way with a new head. How much are they charging you? A new head from clearwater is about $450. I have a strong feeling your going to end up paying twice. Hopefully I'm wrong.

 

the best deal for a new head is from Clearwater. They charge $450 shipped to your door for a new head, no core charge. You do have to send the old head back within 30 days (or 60 ). they also send you a prepaid shipping label for the old head.

It's a brand new casting. if you compare the Clearwater to the OEM, you will see the Clearwater is way beefier than the OEM casting. It is not a reman.

0331 is the cast number--so when you order from clearwater, you will get a 0331 head from them. it will be new, and it is not molded from the original 0331 casting.

 

Don't do it, mang. Much less expensive to scrap the machined 0331 than to replace the engine. 0331 head cracking is a matter of when, not if. Nothing a machine shop can do to prevent it. The casting was poop from the factory. Trust the experience here.
