head gasket qeustions
Yeah that's what I was thinking. If I have all these issues, what would doing the head gasket hurt? Other than it take time and patience to do I really wouldn't be loosing anything.in the end. The Jeep has 250k miles on it sso I would assume most engine with that kind of mileage need new gaskets.
Well I guess I will be doing the head gasket here soon and seeing how many leaks I can stop with that. For sure the head and bad exhaust leak, then the next step is dropping my tranny to get that freeze plug.
I am kicking myself in the *** because I had money set asside from my income tax check to have a rebuilt engine installed for $1800 out the door. Well I spent that money and now am dealing with the aftermath.

Like DESERTXJ206 i too am about to do a head gasket change on my 89 XJ. For the past week my temp has ran above 210(never over heated tho) i have oil in my antifreeze and antifreeze seepage on passenger side behind distributor. I have searched Google and here to see if there was a write up on a renix era head gasket install to find nothing. Anything special i should look out for? This isn't my first head gasket replace just my first on a jeep. Sorry to thread jack just noticed we had the same problems and didn't see the point in starting a new thread.

Rear main
Timing chain cover
Valve cover
Oil pan
And a few others.
my plan is to do it all in one day, hopefully. I'd like to start at 6am and be done by the afternoon as mine is my daily driver. If I could go back I'd have had the motor swapped and not had to worry about all this for quite awhile but I can so the work begins soon.

I might take it one step at a time myself. I'm coming up on 300K, and the O rings that hardened in the oil filer adapter is really the only thing there. If you were to deal with those and get your head buttoned up, you can always come at the seals later. You might want to do a supper job cleaning it, (and the bay and all), then watch close right away to see where it might be leaking before it has a chance to blow around.
If the rear main were actually leaking sometimes it's because the rear main bearing, (and others) are worn. Sometimes it's something a used car dealer might change to sell it. The new will leak after a bit...

Dflinstone what fluid do you run in your axels? Do you just buy the cheap 80-140 or what? I don't have limited slip I don't think and I don't have any lockers.
Got the head pulled today everything went smooth no broken bolts and no blood shed
Took about 3 hrs the only pain in the ***** part was getting the last 2 bottom bolts off the manifold up against the firewall. Droped the head off at the machine shop should have it back after work tomorrow and my gasket set should be in as well so maybe she will be running by tomorrow night if the rain holds off.
