Yes those bolts on the bottom are the different one I am looking for. I know they didn't come out of the ends. The picture of that head looks a little different then the one I have, besides the fact it has roller rockers.

take your valve cover gasket and put it on the head , these bolts locate the gasket in its proper place

Studs are on the manifold side and it's bolt 11 that needs locktite. The last XJ head I did didn't have torx head stud and bolts, thankfully. I would say the ends, but try to put the valve cover on and see where they fit. Just do a dry fit, don't tighten anything more than hand tight. You will either need to bolt something to them or it will only be a fit issue.

The valve cover will go on no matter where the bolts go. I read somewhere these two are torque to yield bolts and the others aren't. Not sure if this is true or not.

ok I got them. I marked them on the head when I pulled them out and like the dumb A$$ I am I didn't even think about them cleaning the head when I took it in to get surfaced. Thanks everyone.

CYLINDER HEAD COVER

The cylinder head cover is isolated from the cylinder head via grommets and a reusable molded rubber gasket. The grommet and limiter are retained in the cylinder head cover.
There are two cylinder head bolts that have a pin to locate the cylinder head cover gasket, they are located at position 8 and 9 Cylinder Head Cover Gasket Locator Pins at #8 & #9
right out of service manual. are you using a factory valve cover gasket
