ok guys I have a 98 cherokee, it doesnt get driven much, has around 118k miles on it all stock as far as motor and trans. Anyway the jeep wont really idle, and it dies at stop lights and wants to die when you get off the gas while driving. The jeep has a lot of suspension issues as well so thats why its been basically parked for the last 2.5 years but I always drive it once a month or so to keep everything moving and all lubed up. Its got a recent tune up, plugs wires, cap rotor. It had a P1281 code and the temp sensor is messed up on the dash. Is anyone familiar with this?

Its got the 6cyl/AUTO combo

lol, its my wifes baby, she has to have it and we cant take it off road for fun, just to get places at the ranch but that was years ago, shes a garage queen now...

 

1281 engine is cold too long, check antifreeze mixture (50/50), thermostat may be sticking open, temp sensor on left side of block could cause code, but the guage should run off seperate sending unit. " at least on the older ones it does"

 

the thermostat may be stuck open but I dont see how that would cause this, its also has an optima red top, alternator and electrical charge is fine so it shouldnt effect the coils, or anything and it is worse when the AC s on so Im not sure whats up. If it were up to me I would rip that drivetrain out and throw a 6.0/4l60e combo underneath it but the boss makes the rules...

I know dude lol, she says she would sell it for 20k, and until that day comes we pay full coverage and it sits in the garage...

 

so does anyone know what may be causing this? is there a hidden fuel filter or something

 

One vote for the 6.0 4l60e swap, but I'm kinda bias
