Dear All of You,

i am a quite new Cherokee user - bought my 4.7 V8 Jeep Grand Cherokee 2002 for about 4 months ago. In general i am happy with it, but recently i have had problems with the electrical system. In the morning when i start the car it sometimes stop the engine after short time, the lights in panel go on so it shows all warning lights/signs - the air condition also jump from celcius to fahrenheit, and sometimes when i drive, the engine suddenly stops, and i have to park the car and start it again ? ! ? ! I have brought it to the repair shop and they changed the cylinder where You put the key for start as well as another part which i cant remember the name off. Most of the time the lights go away after some minutes, but the one which stay on is the sign which show a key and engine - the shop cant figure out what it can be and say that i have to change the key as the micro chip must be damaged, but even if they changed this they cant secure that the problems will be gone as the case with the air condition is not concerned with the point of key ! When click the key 2 or 3 times the following codes come up, 1685, 1687 and 1698 - have tried to see what it means but they mention some technical codes which i dont understand .... - last time when the problem happend and the air was not working and could not open the windows or use the remote, i took the batterry off for 1 minute and put in back again and everything was working again...., but only for short while, then the lights and sounds/alerts came back ... - real headache - any suggestions ?

One more point which has nothing to do with the above, and that is that the engine use a lot of oil, no smoke from exhaust pipe, not dripping from the engine, it simply disappear - have to refill about 2-2.5 liter each 3-4 weeks !!! It has been running about 180.000 km but engine room is clean and when i start it there is only some small "clicking" which go away after 3-5 minutes when the engince is hot - sorry for the long explanations, but i am a "paper person/office guy" and not the one who fix the car by myself ..

I literally just bought my first Cherokee today, so this may or may not be helpful. But when I had strange electrical issues with my 2000 Corvette, I just cleaned the corrosion off of all the chassis grounds, put some dialectic gel on them, and the electrical problems went away. Also needed a new battery before that, but the shop should have been able to tell you if you need a new battery. No idea about your engine trouble.
