I hate to be that guy but my 89 (4.0) will not start. I had blown the front seal out of the trans so I drove it into my shop to replace it. No problems starting it and driving it in. So I pull the trans and put it all back together and now it will not start just cranks. Will the sensor on the driver side of the trans cause it not to start if it had got messed up during the project? Not saying it did but I am about out of things to check. Got fuel and spark. Anything to help me would be great! Got to have it ready to go by sunday for the bad lands!

Yeah that piece on the driver's side of the trans case is called a Crank Position Sensor and if it's not working properly you will not have spark or fuel, so it is very important. If you think it might have got messed up, replace it and see what happens.

What does this crank sensor do? I seem to have spark and I can smell fuel and hear the pump running. Is there any way I can check the sensor to see if it is good or not cause it is a son of a buck to get to as I am sure you all know.

You mentioned that you lost a seal on the front of the trans, right? Then I would be leaning towards your CPS for sure. It prolly got a grip of oil on it, and who knows what else. That is where I'd start, HTH!!
