Hard Starting
Morning guys, I have a problem that I just can't figure out.
2000
Jeep Cherokee
Auto
4x4
4.0
When and only when my jeep is cold it will start the first time I crank it over. It may crank for about 5 seconds before starting but it will start. However once it has started and then been turned off
(I deliver mail, so it's constantly started and shut off all day as I stop and deliver Packages) When I try starting it, it will just crank and crank, I have to let off the key wait a few seconds, then start it and usually it starts immediately, but sometimes I have to repeat the process again. If I let off the key and try to start too soon it makes that awful grinding sound like your trying to start a vehicle that is already running.
Any ideas to why this may be happening?
Appreciate for any help.

yes i had the same issue and mine was a weak fuel pump, one easy way to check it is once it gets hot and won't start, then you can take screw driver and push down the schraeder valve lightly to see if there is fuel present in the line, or if you have a fuel pressure gauge have it hooked up while trying to start the vehicle. you should be able to rent a fuel pressure gauge at any auto parts store.

Check valve problem? My 96 dosent hold pressure, fine while running, but leave it off for 2 minutes and it's a little hard to start. Try turning the ignition on without starting, then off, then back to on, then start. This allows the fuel pump to fill the line and gives me quicker starts.
