Default Hard Start Issue Solved

I had always thought my XJ started hard, but since this is the first 4.0 HO I've owned, I thought it was normal.

After seeing the thread here about cleaning injectors, I decided that may help.

I collected the parts, assembled injector-pulsing mechanism, pulled my injectors, and began the cleaning. On the second one though, when I pushed the button, I got no clicky. The other four were fine, but I figured one injector not firing could well have been my problem.

Off to the JY. Unfortunately, there weren't any XJ's with injectors I would deem worth taking home. Glad I have a Droid, and the CF app!! and A quick check gave me the numbers to cross-ref, and what vehicles have the 2.4L, and 703 injectors. I found two Dodge Stratus's (or something), picked the 6 shiniest injectors, and I'm back in business.

I recently replaced the fuel pump (was dead) and IAC (to gummed to clean), TPS (resistance out of spec), and CPS (180K, prev. maint. ), which quieted the idle quite a bit, but these new injectors make it even more smooth.
(I have to admit, even though it may not have been running real well, I kinda liked when it sounded like a tractor)

Starts much easier, but since I reset the ECM when I did the injector swap today, I can't yet make a real judgement on any overall improvements.

bad pump = no start, replaced. ran, but kinda rough, although it was a little better than before. who knows how long the pump had been deteriorating before it's ability to build and hold necessary pressure was just too weak to accomplish anything

replaced sensors = smoother idle, relative to before

I gave it some time, for the ECM to re-learn fuel trim

a month later, idle was OK, starts were still taking a long time

diagnosed dead injector, replaced them all with 703's = better starts and idle

was the injector bad for years, or for a month? who knows?

but yeah, I know exactly when the pump went
