Hard Popping and jerking in 4x4

Hard Popping and jerking in 4x4
I recently rebuilt my NP231 "Command-Trac", part-time only, 2.72:1 ratio with low range t-case on my 89 Cherokee. Ever since then when I am in 4 wheel drive I get this horible popping and jerking coming from what seams to be the t-case. It acts like it is a chain skipping teeth or something. Please help me out with any idea off what could cause such a thing. I possibly could be something other that the t-case so please any ideas are welcome. Thank you.
