Hey guys, just had a few questions. I know the whole idea here is to do the research yourself but I have had a hard time finding much information or reassurance with my issue (if it is one).
I get a hard clunk/thud when I shift into Drive in my '99 auto from park/reverse. Sometimes it is very obvious, other times, its almost non-existant, but I can feel it most times. I'm wondering if it could be that the tranny mounts are worn out but I don't have much to compare it to.
As an aside, the shift into 4th gear seems delayed sometimes or not at all, because i'll be running at about 2500+ rpm going 100km sometimes. I figure I should look at my tps and check the atf for this one.
Hope I don't seem like too much of an ignorant noob haha. Any help or thoughts on this would be great.
Thanks.

Alright well first off I will have to say as far as the clunk... can't say it is completely normal... but my 98' does the same thing sometimes... try putting it into Neutral first as long as you aren't on a hill... sort of slip it into drive and see if it still does it... I find that if I do it like that sometimes... it does help... like I said can't say it is normal... but the four or five AW4 equipped Cherokees of different years that I have ridden in have all done that.. so it seems to be the norm... still doesn't hurt to check your ATF... if nothing else try to reset the TV cable as well... might help a little bit also... that is something I plan to do this weekend as the PO of mine had put two zip ties on the TV cable to pull a bit of slack out of it to make it shift a bit more solidly once it was in gear...
