Use a multimeter. Sounds like you have a short in the wires. Those engines run hot and melt wires pretty easy.

The engine heat would not have any effect on the wires under the dash that I can think of.

Speedo is cable driven, not electric in 1989.

What the oil pressure gauge and the voltmeter have in common is their ground connection. To the left of the steering column, up under the dash, is a black wire attached to the bottom of the instrument panel. First off, make sure the sheet metal screw is tight. Trace it up to the next junction and see if there's an issue there.

So I found the speedometer cable on the transfer case looks old and going to replace it so thanks on that but also think i found the black ground under the dash and the connection looks good and the screw is tight tried to follow but shortly tucked into a bunch of other wires all wrapped in electrical tape! Is there any other fuses or relays I should be checking other than the (gauges) fuse under the dash before I tear into it? Not a big electrical guy always been body and suspension but need to learn.
