Had to cut off 8" of exhaust, what now?
Well I made a stupid mistake while wheeling and bent the end of my exhaust pipe up. We had to take a hacksaw to it so I could drive it regularly. The thing is that now my exhaust is about 8" shorter, points down more, and has another crack/bend about a foot up.
Can I cut it off up there and will it be safe? Can I run it out the side?
Should I take some pictures to show y'all?
Thanks

i can tell u that by law u have to have your exhaust come out behind your last opening window/door honestly i would just cut it off right at the muffler and put a little turn down on it and go on with your day. if u wanna fix it right go to your local exhaust shop and have them put on a new tail pipe it should only run you bout 100 bucks

I agree...just get a new tail pipe. You can even get one from Autozone and clamp it on yourself-that would be the cheapest right way to do it. But I have done the "turn down" thing right after the muffler myself when in a pinch.

i made this for my friends tj. his stock exhast was in the way of his RE long arms so we unbolted the muffler and i cut the flange off. then i welded a cherry bomb to the flange and welded a turndown to that. then we bolted it in. it sounds great and cost like 40 bucks.
if i were you i would do that or just put a turndown on your stock muffler. i am pretty sure u can also use clamps if you cant weld

^ agreed. Just either buy a new tailpipe, or see if you can get some 45's and stuff to clamp together to work...
I once did a 45 to straight right off the cat on my X's 83 Delta 88. Nothing like a land barge with a race type exhaust set up on it...

Would it be ok if I just cut it off right by the gas tank and left it like that for winter. Because in spring I am going to get a full new exhaust (I don't want to put new exhaust through Illinois winter hell.)

So I think that this weekend, I'll cut it off right before the big bend in the pipe where the exhaust has a hard time passing through. Sound good?

Thats kinda what I did. I cut it off and put a 45 bend piece from Advance auto to run it out behind the tire. it has worked so far.
