Yeah man, this is just really throwing me off.
No where on my Jeep or on the build list does it say HO, but apparently it has to be. I was mistaken originally when I thought 'powertech' referred to the 00-01 engines and HO was 91-99.
I guess they are all powertech, and the newer ones are powertech HO.

If not then you do not have the 0331 head.

I would think a 4/99 build date would be a late model '99. Mfg's usually start sending the dealerships the next/new model year in the last 1/4 of the current year. Thus '99 model production would have started give or take mid/late summer '98 so inventories could be built up and shipments sent to dealers later part of '98. My guess is production of '99 models ceased give or take early/mid summer '99 making a 4/99 build date a late '99 model.

djb that's a great point.
The hood has been up all day lol but I just don't know where or what to look for. So, I'm guessing coil pack would be to the left of the engine, but what does one with the coil pack look like vs one without? I'll try and get pics asap.
The number stamped on the head is 53020323.

No distributor or distributor-less for '00-'01. '99 down have the traditional distributor (cap, rotor and plug wires).

88 is a Renix. OP needs to get the cylinder head number from the driver's side of the head about midway down on top. 4 numbers. 0331 is the one that cracked. TUPY is good also.
They were all referred to as Powertech I6. 87-90 was Renix engine control system, 91-95 is OBD1 HO, 96-01 is OBD2 HO. Mid 99 they started the 0331 head and coil packs.
