Default H.O. vs Powertech

Did a search, came up with the same contradictory info I found on google. Thought I would ask for a more definitive answer here.

I have a 99 xj with the 4.0, auto trans, unsure at this time of exact build date (Chrysler has yet to get back to me).

Build sheet says I have the Powertech, which I thought only came in 00-01 Cherokees and was known for the cracked head problem. I though H.O. was used through 99?

So what the heck?

you might have a late 99. check at what month they started producing the 00'. And then check if yours was produced before or after that. Other than that I dont really have any other ideas.

That's kind of what I am thinking, but I haven't gotten my build date back from Jeep yet.

If it is the cracking head version, what should I do? Kind of bummed cause I had always been stoked that I had a 99 with great axles and supposedly a great engine.

For what it's worth, I do have the HP D30 in the front, not low pinion like the 00-01

Are you having issues? If not them who cares what head u have. I mean at this point that jeep is 13 years old and still running.

No, no engine issues. And in a way you're right, 171k and 13 years old, runs like a champ. I'd like to be able to say 300k and 25 years old one day though.

edit: actually I do have a slight tick, but I am almost positive its the flex plate bolts. Also a minor ringing in the engine bay that I'm assuming is my alt bearing poopin its pants.

At this point i would say u r good to go. 175 even if its the bad batch of heads i would say they must not be that bad.

Im just saying at this point it don't matter what batch of jeada you have if it goes out then it lived a good prosporous life. Cant blame it on the batch anymore. Cause sometimes they just go out dont matter who or when it was made

The door post sticker (if still visible) shows the build date.

Build date, according to the door sticker, is April 99, so she just turned 13! Also not a late model 99 so yeah.

Head casting number... is that the stamped number just above the oil filler cap? If so, it is: 53020323.
