Default Gutter Rail Trim

I recently picked up the trim (two long metal rails) that goes along the gutter rail. It looks like it originally came with some sort of adhesive tape on the inside. I'm not trying to source that but am thinking of alternatives.

I was thinking maybe a bunch of small globs of RTV might be enough to keep it in place, but also make it easy to remove if I need to for say a paint job in the future.

Does anyone have experience with attaching this?

There are (should be) some metal clips in the rail trim and they hold it on. My best guess is the tape is just to protect the paint from being scrapped off.

The clips need to be opened up if they have closed over and the trim is easiest with another set of hands to fit. It goes on tiled inwards towards the center of the roof then twists down and on. It's easiest to do this one clip at a time as the length of it allows a bit of twist between clips.

I have experience removing some

imo, no thing that holds moisture in any way should touch your drip rail if possible, as it encourages corrossion which is difficult to control
