Default Guage question (Yep, anothe one. But this ones COOL)

Anyone repaint their gauge needles?! Mine have turned all white mostly. Is it possible to repaint them the dayglo orange or whatever? Anyone have any advice/hints?

you can unscrew the plastic from the front of the gague cluster to gain access to the needles. i had mine apart to put an led strip in the bottom to shine up on the gagues in my old 94. it's easy. i have never pulled the needles off in an xj, but did it in my 99 s10 to change the background on them. the needles pulled right off. but i'd try it with a junkyard cluster 1st just to be shure they will come off. also when i did the s10 they said to start the car. let it warm up. mark the position of all needles before pulling them so you know where to put them back to with the car running when re-installing them.

I was watching a resto show where they repainted the needles on one of the show cars. They said that the needles become very brittle over the years, so you have to be real careful pulling them off. This may sound stupid, but I'd try and use a fork or something to get some leverage and pry it off evenly Just unscrew the plastic casing and let us know how it goes.

lol i know its a little strange but my neighbor repained his in his old chevy truck with nail polish and it turned out well and lol he found a lot of different colors just a cheap way to do it and hey maybe one of the women in the house hold got a decent color you like so it'd kinda be a freebie haha and its already got a small brush also if you want to do it with out taking the needles off just slip a piece of paper behind them while you paint

I would use some transparent paint from a hobby store so they still light up at night. Or do they not glow on the xj... Hmm I never paid attention

Check out this link http://go.jeep-xj.info/Whitebground.htm it can be done to your year jeep. Mine is listed on this page under the name "Joseph Massa" # 17 with the flames on the gauges. I used a red marker...Tj
