Default Grinds going into 2nd Gear

I have a 5 speed straight six Cherokee.

Anytime i shift into second gear driving down the road it grinds and doesn't want to go in most of the time. When i put my jeep into 4/4LOW it goes into second gear no problem.

I was wondering if anyone could help me with this problem.

Thanks in advance guys!

I"m having the same issue - It wasn't as bad until it started getting colder out, now it fights like hell especially on second. reverse will sometimes just grind even if the clutch is all the way in. from what i read the issue is the fluid - it is recommended that you use 70w-80 redline mtl with your ax-15. I am yet to swap mine but i spent 50+ on the fluids for the change. wouldn't hurt to add some of that Lucas transmission additive as well - that stuff is gold. if You have the ba-10 i'd just try that lucas additive and make sure your fluid level is up to par - too little and it turns into a pos, too much and it fills up your cab with fluid

That's a synchro issue. My BA10 did the same thing in 2nd. Try what this guy above me posted. It might work or it might not.
I tried Lucas in mine and it helped a little but did not go away. Only real way to fix is replace the tranny or replace the one bad part but tearing down a tranny is really not something you wanna get into if you've never done it.

You've got worn synchros! Congratulations. You can either rebuild or learn to double-clutch and rev match.

Redline MT-90, Redline MTL, and Royal Purple Synchromax are great fluids. Pennzoil Synchromesh will also get the job done.

Tried the Lucas crap in my AX-15. It worked okay in the blistering heat of the summer. Now that it's almost winter it's too thick to lubricate anything and shifting became worse. Not recommended.

If it's a bA-10, it's pretty much standard operating procedure, especially when the weather cools down.

If it's a BA-10, they ground into second gear when new.
