grinding while turning

Engine: 4.0 I6
94 I6 4WD XJ. When making sharp turns (parking lots usually) i get an extremely loud grinding noise coming from the front end. i've been told it's because the front axle is still engaged. From research i've done, i read that it doesn't disengage. Anybody know how to solve this problem?
