i did the sye on my 231 in the truck it was easy! just the snap rings are a *****. and then used a front shaft out of another xj and its maxed out on 10" lift i do alright for now! do need a longer shaft just put it on the list. the sye is way better .

Transfer cases

All the transfer cases used on the Cherokee were chain driven with aluminum housings. Command-Trac was standard on XJ models built with 4WD.

• 1984 – 1987 : New Process NP207 "Command-Trac", part-time only, 2.61:1 ratio with low range
• 1987 – 2001 : New Process NP231 "Command-Trac", part-time only, 2.72:1 ratio with low range
• 1987 – 2001 : New Process NP242 "Selec-Trac", full-time/part-time, 2.72:1 ratio with low range

i would think that one of these should be your transfer case, when you put you jeep in 4 wheel drive dose the light that turns on say "part time"or full-time?

i dont think you have the right transfer case number, but i might be wrong, somebody correct me.
